#827 11/6/16 – What Next After No Temple Mount and Western Wall? “The Palestinians” Claim Dead Sea Scrolls; What We Can Do

WHILE YOU STAND ON ONE LEG: It doesn’t stop with the Temple Mount and Western Wall.  “The Palestinians” are now demanding that the Dead Sea Scrolls be “returned” to them.  Three websites referenced below offer historical, legal and terminology information to those who would contest the narrative that Jews are outside “occupiers” of Judea, Samaria and historic Jerusalem.

What Next After No Temple Mount and Western Wall?  “The Palestinians” Claim Dead Sea Scrolls; What We Can Do

The Jewish Press has an article this morning (Sun, 11/6/16) with its lede telling us:

“Following their success in erasing the Jewish historical connection to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount at UNESCO, the Palestinian Authority has decided to ramp it up a bit, according to a report on IBA’s Reshet Bet.

“At UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property, the Palestinian Authority delegation to UNESCO is now demanding the ‘return’ of the ‘stolen’ Dead Sea Scrolls.”

Not bad for an organization whose leader’s doctoral thesis was the Zionists’ conspired with the Nazis to whip up hatred of Jews in Europe to encourage their emigration to Palestine.

Has there ever been a people other than us every moment of whose existence for 3,000 years is relentlessly challenged as false?

What should we do?

The following is from an article sent to me this morning by a Jerusalem rabbi, written by a leader of KeepJerusalem.org, dedicated to providing people with information to make the case of the Jewish claim to its homeland and its always-capital city:

“We must thus encourage our Christian allies in our fight against hostile Muslim anti-Jewish trends, but we must not rely on them. The fight is ours [emphasis original].  If Jerusalem is to take its place as the site “from where Torah shall go forth” and which will become the “house of prayer for all nations,” as the Prophets promise, we must all enlist in the cause [emphasis added].”

Three websites to visit

www.keepjerusalem.org

Take a good look at the site of this article’s author, www.keepjerusalem.org, dedicated to “working to keeping Jerusalem united under Israeli sovereignty,” which I just learned about this morning.  It’s well-organized and packed with both summary statements of Jewish rights and links to drill down into detailed documentation.

www.israelrights.com

And take a look at a second site, www.israelrights.com, led by Jeff Daube, also head of ZOA’s Jerusalem office, and incisive Israel blogger and newsletter-writer Arlene Kushner.  This informative site makes the case: “We have Legal Grounds.”  Its homepage says:

“We have a wealth of information on this site.  Please use it.

“URGENT!

“There is no time to be lost.

“Increasingly, the international community moves towards the demonization of Israel.

“We see it in anti-Israel rhetoric and diplomatic stances.

“Israel cannot afford to be reticent in the face of this onslaught.

“There is solid legal documentation for Israel’s rights in Jerusalem, and in Judea and Samaria.”

It quotes from the preface of a resolution passed by the Israeli cabinet:

“The Jewish people has a natural, historical and legal right to its homeland and to its eternal capital, Jerusalem”

and says of that resolution:  “We want people to be aware that this statement of rights was passed.  We believe that this is precisely the sort of message the Israeli government must be delivering day in and day out, for all the world to hear.”

www.factsonisrael.com

(Ok, it’s my site, the site in which Steve Crane, Lee Bender and I are involved.)  Its logo states this mission statement:  “Promoting Truth, Combating Pejorative Terms, Exposing Media Bias.”  Its ‘motto’:  “If you forfeit the language, you forfeit our heritage and history.”

Its pages include, among others:

A-Z Facts:  a series of alphabetically-organized statements on aspects of the delegitimization campaign against the Jewish homeland of Israel.  “Apartheid, Borders, ‘Creation’ of Israel ….”

Media Watch:  the weekly editions of this media watch, focusing on both particular news story imbalances and on how the news media’s loaded lexicon distorts public perception of Israel.

Toxic Terms:  a list of thirty-some misleading expressions – “Palestinian refugees from the war that followed Israel’s creation … seized by Israel in June 1967 … occupied territories,” etc. – frequently used in Israel reporting.

Source Materials:  articles on Israel authored by us and others.

Videos:  recorded PowerPoint talks we’ve given to Jewish and Christian groups (ok, and a smoke-filled cigar club) on “10 Misleading Expressions … Can Israel Get Fair Media Coverage,” etc.

Making our case

My campaign in this media watch is we should all stop saying the dirty words – “East” Jerusalem, “West Bank,” etc., as this will show a vivid contrast between historically-grounded accurate terms versus the pejoratives used in common by the Jewish homeland’s foes and the media.  That’s a start.

But the all-out attack on Jewish homeland heritage and history today – historic Jerusalem as “occupied” by “Jewish settlers,” Temple Mount and Western Wall as Muslim sites, Dead Sea Scrolls as ‘stolen’ from “the Palestinians” – demands more than just word choices by us.  It includes supporters of the Jewish homeland making our historical and legal case.  One way to get involved in this is through active involvement in really pro-Israel organizations.
