WHILE YOU STAND ON ONE LEG: In December, 2000, the ZOA’s Dr. Goldblatt suggested that the fraternal order Birth Sholom start “a media watch.” With more chutzpah than confidence that there’d be #2, on January 7, 2001, we emailed thirty folks what we brazenly titled “Birth Sholom Media Watch Alert #1.” This week’s #678 completes thirteen years of such weekly editions. A few of you have come all the way along for the ride. And now you include distinguished rabbis, pundits and journalists in the U.S. And Israel, fellow media watchers, grassroots Jews (yes, some of you liberals), Christian Zionists, and strangers who over the years just sent me an email, “subscribe.”

Last week’s #677 summarized some of the ways in which the mainstream Western media, as it appeared in our hometown Philly Inquirer, persistently delegitimized the Jewish homeland this year. Now, this final weekend of 2013, we highlight three media pieces on Israel, one of them from This Week In The Inq, especially deserving of comment.

But first I have to tell you a story.
